About Ponte Nuovo Symposium

My name is Katherine Dick, and I am now a senior at the International School of Florence. Although I am from New York, I have been living in Italy since 2016.

Over the years, I have learned that Florence is a city and community filled with a broad range of local and global professionals with deep and intimate knowledge of global events. The goal of Ponte Nuovo Symposium is to find a way to connect young adults with experienced individuals in hope that they will be inspired to become more complete global citizens.

Every few weeks I try to reach into the Florentine community and invite a guest to a book-club-style symposium attended by 8 to 12 high school students. Professionals are asked to suggest a discussion topic and provide advanced reading for participants. Over the course of 60-90 minutes, the students have a chance to hear from the frontlines and ask relevant questions.
